Dr. Brudvig's research interest is the development of artificial processes for solar energy conversion through the understanding of water oxidation in nature. His group uses spectroscopic, biophysical and molecular biological methods to examine the structure and function of the redox centers, the kinetics and yeilds of electron-transfer reactions, and the chemistry of water oxidation in photosystem II. Through the synergism of inorganic and biological chemistry, they have generated the first homogeneous oxomanganese water-oxidation catalyst.
